Musical Exchange a Success
For another year, a musical exchange between Dutch and Tanzanian musicians was organized by Music Crossroads Tanzania (MCTZ) through the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dar es Salaam.
Henk Lippens, a well known Dutch musician who plays the violin, the accordion, the piano and is a singer, can easily adapt to any kind of music, from French chansons, Italian ballades, to the Klezmer melody and the Tango from Argentina.
He returned to share musical ideas and experiences together with musicians of MCTZ and students and teachers of the Dhow Countries Music Academy in Zanzibar. The musicians on the exchange were able to meet up during the one-week program and have the chance to learn, rehearse and perform pieces together.
After several rehearsals and four recorded songs, they all performed together at a musical evening at the residence of the Dutch ambassador. This Tanzanian-Dutch blend was a big success as there was afterwards a great demand for the promo CD of this group, which was already prepared to hand out that evening.
