The Konkalaz band was started by members of Music Crossroads in Malawi during 2008. The band has five members coming from throughout Malawi whose individual music backgrounds and personalities have developed into an eclectic mix of R&B, Reggea, Funk, and Jazz which they have appropriately dubbed, "Afro-Funk-Infusion". These progressive, young musicians write and perform songs which cleverly incorporate positive messages about HIV/AIDS, spirituality, relationships, and other pressing social issues commonly faced by young people in Malawi everyday. The band's unique sound coupled with their energetic performances have secured their position as ambassadors of Music Crossroads in Malawi at the 2011 Inter-Regional Festival taking place in Mozambique (Feb. 2012). Even when the African sun is at its brightest, these rising stars can still be seen shining over "The Warm Heart" spreading positive messages of social change and hope where it is needed most. Things seem to be heating up for the Konkalaz, and they are definitely not looking for any shade.
