In May 2005, Music Crossroads Tanzania opened its Training Center in Dar es Salaam. Here musicians are able through free membership use the space for rehearsal and Instruments free of charge. The Office/Center activities, brings together different people of the music field, from artists to the stakeholders. Therefore, there are more opportunities for young bands to be ‘spotted’ and to get professional gigs. With the stimulation of the music scene, there are more artists opting now turning to live-band performances, as the industry is now supporting this.


The center offers the following activities:

Ngoma Workshops: training members in techniques ngoma who will go on to present their work at mini-festivals. Monday and Wednesday afternoons, starting form 16:00.

Hip-hop Fridays: These weekly gatherings of Dar es Salaam’s growing hip hop community provide a platform for local emcees (rappers) to participate in friendly verbal ‘battles’. The centre encourages the use of live music instead of purely digital beats as well as the incorporation of different traditional instruments into the mix. The champion of the hip-hop battles will perform at the WAPI stage of the British Council.

Children’s Workshops: Daily workshops held Monday to Friday from 15:00 after school.
Learn how to play instruments, write songs, vocal training exercises and dance!
Stage

Performance Workshops: Tuesdays & Thursdays, beginning at 16:00, a professional facilitator works with participants training them in the use of microphone, stage performance and stage awareness techniques.

Instruments Workshops: Lessons are provided for learning drums (set), keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, djembe, clarinet, shakers and marimba.
Open Workshops: Offering training in vocals, dancing, and song writing.

Girls Only! Workshops: Exclusively for the girls, these workshops empower young women with the skills to play instruments training and to take active leadership roles in their bands, moving away from the traditional stereotypes of females as purely dancers or back-up vocalists.

School Exchange: The center conducts school tours and workshops for exchanging ideas between artists who are at school and the artists of the Training center, exchanging different music styles and skills.

Rehearsal Area: The center gives artists the free opportunity to all bands that manage to have exercise in the Training center (Music Crossroads office) in the following condition; they required to give help on teaching participants who are in needy to know music in different style.
