The Music Crossroads InterRegional Festival (IRF) 2009 dates have been set and from the 6th to the 8th of August, the small town of Livingstone (Victoria Falls) will be flooded with an array of amazing up and coming groups from Malawi, Mozambique Tanzania Zimbabwe and Zambia. The InterRegional Festival is southern Africa’s premier music competition for young artists of all styles, not only is it a music festival but it is the chance for these musicians to change their lives and that of their communities forever!
Winners of past IRFs include: Kapa Dech (MZ), Liyana (ZW), Afrikali (TZ), Bongo Love (ZW), Tikhu Vibrations (MW), OYA Theatre (TZ), Konga Vibes (MW), Gwarimba (ZW), Body Mind and Soul (MW) and 2008 winners Mokoomba (ZW) who will set off on their monumental European Tour in June this year and will visit the Festival on their way back from Europe or something like that! The festival represents the culmination of an entire year’s activities throughout the Music Crossroads program, which includes 34 Provincial festivals, 5 National Festivals and daily musical trainings and events at the Music Crossroads centres in the five countries. Each IRF encompasses high level musical workshops as well as several opportunities for young artists to explore the role of music in shaping their societies and addressing some of the most serious issues affecting their lives as young Africans.
The Music Crossroads IRF 2009 is the 12th festival of its kind but the first ever to be held on Zambian soil! Music Crossroads Zambia promises to make this an unforgettable experience for musicians and festival goers alike!
